Building Growth and Confidence in Soccer

Soccer is a sport that requires both physical and mental strength. As a player, it is essential to not only focus on improving your skills on the field but also build confidence and growth as a person. Soccer training can be a great tool for achieving these goals.

One way to build growth and confidence through soccer training is by setting goals. These can be short-term and long-term goals, such as scoring a certain number of goals in a season or becoming a starter on the team. By setting goals, you are challenging yourself to improve and pushing yourself out of your comfort zone. This will help you become a better player and a more confident person.

Another way to build growth and confidence through soccer training is by practicing mental toughness. Soccer is a sport that requires a lot of mental focus and discipline. By training your mind to be strong and disciplined, you will be able to perform better on the field and handle the pressure of a game. This can be done by practicing visualization techniques, learning to manage stress and anxiety, and staying focused during practice and games.

Working on physical fitness is also crucial for soccer players. It is important to have a balanced training program that includes strength training, cardiovascular exercises, and flexibility training. This will help you improve your performance on the field and also help you to prevent injuries.

Playing as a part of a team can also help you build growth and confidence. Soccer is a team sport, and by working together with your teammates, you can achieve great success. By learning to communicate effectively, trust your teammates, and work together towards a common goal, you will become a better player and a more confident person.

Soccer training can be a great tool for building growth and confidence in players. By setting goals, practicing mental toughness, working on physical fitness and being a part of a team, players can improve their skills on the field and become more confident and well-rounded individuals. Remember that soccer is not just about winning games, it’s about becoming a better person and developing the skills that will help you succeed in life.

Finding The Right Soccer Level

Finding the right level of soccer for your child is crucial in his or her development.

Soccer in the US is growing fast, and there are more options than ever for players to find a team that is right for them. For parents though, this is a very important decision to make. Finding the right level of soccer for your child is critical in ensuring that they have a positive experience and just as important for you to have a positive experience as well. Your decision needs to be based on a number of factors and we can discuss them below.

When deciding on the right level of soccer, it is important to take the following into consideration before making the final decision:

1. Goals for playing soccer – When a player is very young and just starting the game, the decision is easy to make as you just want a player to get experience. But as they get older, it’s important to figure out why your child is playing the sport. You need to ask the following questions:

  • Is my child playing to be with his friends?
  • Does my child want to be a professional soccer player?
  • Is my child just happy with where they are?
  • Do I want them to see what soccer is all about?
  • Does my child want to play soccer in college?

These are all important questions to ask when making a decision on the level of soccer to play in as it’s important to match up their goals with the experience to keep players motivated.

2. Budget – The highest levels of youth soccer can get quite expensive with annual fees potentially ranging between $5,000 and $10,000. Therefore, it’s important to consider this when deciding on the next step for your kid. There are more and more opportunities for scholarships within some of the top soccer academies in the US, but just like any other scholarship, these will be selective and tough to get.

3. Time – Just like any other activity, it’s important to evaluate the amount of time you and your child are willing to spend on soccer. Time commitment can range anywhere from an hour or two a day once or twice a week at the lowest levels to two hours or more a day 6 times a week. Finding the right balance of time with your schedule (and school) based on the goals for your child is important to make sure that other things in life do not suffer.

Based on these factors, here is a short summary of the levels of leagues in the US that teams participate in that you can choose from. As noted, there is a place for every player to play.

1. Recreational Soccer – This is the entry level for almost every soccer player and often a level that players continue to play in if their interest levels are just to stay active and make friends. This is a perfect place for players who are not overly competitive but enjoy the social experiences of the sport. There are many recreational options locally as every city typically has an option.

2. Travel Soccer – This is a very broad category with a wide range of leagues and competition levels, but this is ultimately for the player that would like to have a more competitive experience and still want social experiences as well. These players will typically play in high school but maybe not pursue any soccer further once they get to college. United States Youth Soccer Association (https://www.usyouthsoccer.org/) offers a number of options that fall into this category.

3. Travel Soccer with plans for College – There are a number of newer leagues that have formed for these players. Players looking to play in college at the different options there with or without a scholarship should pursue playing with clubs that fall into this category. Some of the leagues include Elite 64 (https://www.usysnationalleague.com/elite-64/), ECNL (https://www.theecnl.com/), Elite Academy (https://eliteacademyleague.com/), and GA (https://girlsacademyleague.com/). In addition to regular games in a league during the season, these programs offer different college showcases and national tournaments that help get players visibility.

4. Plans to play professionally – This is another area that is relatively new and still forming within the US, but professional teams have begun to develop their own academies to identify and develop players for the top stages of soccer. Programs like MLS Next (https://www.mlssoccer.com/mlsnext/) and USL Academy (https://www.usl-academy.com/) give players a stage to showcase themselves to professional scouts.

Soccer continues to expand in the US with the ultimate mission of getting more and more players into the game while offering options for all levels of players. Additionally, players can independently train outside of their regular team training to help them with their goals whether it is to stay fit or progress to the next level. This is where training solutions like Sogility offer opportunities for players to achieve their goals.

5 Winter Soccer Hobbies

It may be cold outside during the winter, but soccer doesn’t need to stop!

Your season has just ended as you played that final match of the season with a light coating of snow on the field. Now that you have a little extra time on your hands, what should you do for the next 3 months as the temperature drops? Here are a few ideas to keep feeding your love for soccer.

1. Watch Soccer – More than ever, there is plenty of soccer to watch on TV during the week as well as on the weekends. Although the MLS season is over, there are plenty of other top-quality leagues playing throughout the winter such as the Premier League in England, La Liga in Spain, and Serie A in Italy. Not only are these matches fun to watch, but it’s always beneficial to watch and learn from the best players in the world.

2. Indoor Soccer Leagues – Get a team together and play in your local leagues! There are more and more options whether it’s the traditional indoor soccer format or you want to venture out and play other forms of the sport like futsal or 5-a-side. These leagues are not only fun and get you out playing with your teammates and friends, but they also allow a player to improve their ball skills with the small spaces and many touches you will get on the ball throughout a match.

3. Indoor Soccer Training – There are a couple of options that have recently popped up as it relates to training indoors. Whether it’s with a private trainer or training at a membership-based facility, this is a great way to keep improving your skills in the off-season. Facilities like Sogility offer different memberships, winter camps, and other programs that will not only keep you busy but definitely improve your skills so you can surprise your coaches, teammates and competition when you return in the new season.

4. Playing Video Games – Games like FIFA from EA Sports have truly developed their games to a point where they are very life-like both from the standpoint of graphics of the player and field as well as the actual play. These games can help a player understand positional strategy and tactics while being fun.  Of course, too much of something is never a good thing so it’s important to find a good balance of time you spend on video games.

5. Training at home – At the end of the day, all you need in soccer is a ball. Definitely don’t hesitate to practice juggling and your foot skills in your garage or your basement (with your parent’s permission!). Practicing these skills daily will definitely help you grow as a player.

Soccer is definitely an all year round sport and there are many ways you can keep involved in the sport. Whether its spending those early Saturday mornings watching your favorite Premier League teams or spending time at Sogility cleaning up your passing and dribbling skills, there are many ways to keep feeding your love for soccer.

Top 5 Reasons Why Your Kid Should Play Soccer

In today’s world, kids and parents definitely have options when it comes to sports and hobbies. Whether it’s playing a musical instrument or joining an after-school club, there are many activities for your kids. Unfortunately, options can lead to challenges in deciding what is the right activity for your child. Here are a few reasons why soccer, the number one sport in the world, may just be the right sport for your child.

1. Friends – This is one of the most important benefits of playing soccer. Soccer teams may have anywhere from 15 to 25 kids on a team and is a year-round sport. Whether it’s at a practice or a game, your kid will develop special bonds with their teammates as they go through ups and downs together on and off the field. Additionally, parents also have an opportunity to interact with other like-minded parents to help them develop friendships too!

2. Healthy – Soccer is a healthy sport for the mind and body. Not only has soccer been shown to help with building stamina and strength, as well as eye-hand/foot coordination, but further exercise can also improve your mood and self-esteem. Being a part of different successes and challenges helps build a player’s mental skills for the future.

3. Structure – Soccer can be very busy with multiple trainings a week and games on the weekends. If a player continues to progress to higher-level teams, this also means traveling further to games. The combination of soccer with school helps keep a kid busy and managing a schedule as opposed to just sitting around and playing video games in their free time.

4. Global – The number one sport in the world is soccer, and your kid will not only be playing a sport that is growing in the United States, but they will be part of a global community that is a part of the game whether they are a player or a fan. No matter where your kid is in the world, they will be able to relate with others when it comes to soccer or football as it’s called in many other parts of the world!

5. Life Skills – Overall, kids have an opportunity to experience and learn many life skills that they can take with them into the future. Whether it’s friendships, time management, problem-solving, perseverance, or conflict resolution, the number of skills on and off the field that a player will learn is endless.

Soccer has over 250 million people playing worldwide so there must be something fun about the sport! It can be played anywhere from a backyard to a street or even in your basement. All you need is a ball.

A great way to see if soccer is right for your child is for them to attend a mini-camp or be part of group training at a soccer facility like Sogility. This will give your kids a chance to get a taste of the sport without making the full commitment to play for a team in a season.
